This iced tea tastes better than the international coffee chain version, plus making it at home makes it cheaper and better for you.
What’s in it
We use organic tea and herbs and raw honey from a local farm.
Yep, it’s really this easy
- For a half-gallon of iced tea, in a 3-4 quart pot, pour 1.5 quarts of filtered water and add 2 tablespoons green tea and 1-2 teaspoons each lemon verbena, lemongrass, and spearmint. To make more, just scale up. To make less… why would you do that?
- Bring to a simmer and turn off heat. Leave to steep for 10 minutes. If you get distracted and it ends up sitting for a while longer, that’s ok. Of course, that never happens to me. Ahem.
- Then strain the tea into your container of choice. In case you didn’t know, we really like mason jars around here for, well, so many things. That includes iced tea pitcher.
- The benefits of raw honey are sacrificed at temperatures above 110°, so once the tea has cooled to below that, add a bit less than 1/4 cup of raw honey to the tea and top off your container with filtered water.
This stuff is sooo delicious! I made a rule for myself (that I almost always follow) to drink a glass of water before a glass of tea, or I would consume the entire gallon myself much too quickly.
If you grab your refillable travel cup or bottle and fill it with this tea, you won’t need to go through the coffee shop drive-thru while you’re out. 😉
